Overview

Active Silicon has extended its Harrier autofocus-zoom line with the first global shutter models in the family: a 10x (AS-CAM-10LGHD-A) and a 30x (AS-CAM-30LGHD-A). Both use a 1/3.1-inch 3 MP global shutter CMOS sensor with roughly 3.2 million effective pixels, capturing the whole frame at one instant so fast-moving subjects are recorded without the skew and wobble a rolling shutter produces.

Optical performance is delivered through autofocus-zoom blocks with a choice of 10x or 30x magnification, so system designers can match field of view and resolution to the application. Output is LVDS digital video — the 10x model also offers EX-SDI for compressed video over longer cable runs, while the 30x model adds analog CVBS. Video formats cover 1080p and 720p at 60, 50, 30 and 25 fps, with shutter speeds from 1/30 to 1/40,000 second.

Both cameras add day and night operation, digital image stabilization and noise reduction, and dimensions as compact as 66 x 43.6 x 47 mm on the 10x model. They pair with Active Silicon's Harrier camera interface boards to add USB 3, HDMI and Ethernet IP connectivity, and sit alongside the wider family — 23x IP 4K, 30x 3G-SDI on the Sony FCB-EV9520L block, and a 36x global shutter model.

Key Benefits

A true global shutter eliminates motion distortion on conveyors, robots and vehicles where rolling-shutter cameras blur or bend moving parts. 10x and 30x optical zoom cover both wide-area and long-throw inspection from the same camera family and interface boards. LVDS, EX-SDI, CVBS and interface-board options let integrators choose the cable length and host interface their installation needs.

Applications

Conveyor and high-speed inline inspection, robotic and vehicle-mounted vision, long-range surveillance and perimeter monitoring, automated optical inspection where zoom and focus must change on the fly, and embedded vision systems using Active Silicon frame grabbers.
