Overview
HPE sells rear door heat exchangers as fully part-numbered rack options under the S4N SKU family, built on Motivair's ChilledDoor technology. Because the SKU enumerates rack height, rack width, voltage class and feed direction, a rack row can be specified and ordered as rack plus cooling without an engineering submittal for each position.
The SKU layout is systematic: M12 and M14 denote the rack platform, 42U and 48U the height, 600 mm and 800 mm the width, 208-230 V and 260-290 V the input class, and top feed versus bottom feed the plumbing route. S4N01A is a 42U 600 mm M14 rack at 260-290 V with top feed; S4N11A is a 48U 600 mm M12 rack at 208-230 V with bottom feed.
The motive for specifying one is density. These units remove server exhaust heat at the rear door rather than letting it into the room, which is how a rack moves into the 20-75 kW range without a CRAH rebuild. Motivair's ChilledDoor design is rated for 100 percent heat removal up to 75 kW per rack, with built-in failover and overcool modes under PLC control. HPE also lists the matching plumbing accessories — flowmeter upgrade kit, supply/return manifold, extension and CDU hose kits — so the secondary loop can be specified in the same BOM.
