Overview
Motivair's MCDU family is a full ladder of coolant distribution units spanning a 4U in-rack model to a 2,350 kW floor-mount unit. The MCDU 4U fits at the top or bottom of a standard 19-inch rack at 102 kW, while the floor-mount line runs MCDU-15 at 310 kW, MCDU-25 at 625 kW, MCDU-40 at 1,250 kW, MCDU-50 at 1,725 kW and MCDU-60 at 2,350 kW — the same products that cooled the world's first exascale systems.
Each CDU performs five jobs: it decouples the IT cooling loop from facility water, controls coolant temperature and flow precisely, monitors and trends the loop, provides pump redundancy, and scales with server load in real time. A stainless steel plate heat exchanger transfers heat from the secondary loop to primary chilled water supplied by a chiller, cooling tower or natural source, while a modulating 2-way valve constantly matches cooling capacity to IT demand and a PLC holds the secondary loop above the room dew point to eliminate condensation.
For racks that need cooling without a full DLC loop, Motivair's ChilledDoor mounts directly to the rear of a standard server rack and removes up to 75 kW per rack, keeping a computing environment heat-neutral. Control and integration use BACnet MS/TP, BACnet IP, Modbus and LON, and Motivair builds custom OEM CDU designs for non-standard liquid cooling applications.
