Overview
The Variscite DART-MX95 is a compact system-on-module built on the NXP i.MX 95, one of the first i.MX parts to pair application-class Cortex-A55 cores with a dedicated NPU. Six A55 cores run at up to 2.0 GHz, backed by an 800 MHz Cortex-M7 and a 250 MHz Cortex-M33 for hard real-time and safety-domain work alongside the Linux application processor.
For AI at the edge the module carries a 2 TOPS eIQ Neutron NPU, which is enough to run quantised vision and audio models locally without a discrete accelerator. Graphics are handled by a 3D GPU supporting OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.2 and OpenCL 3.0 plus a separate 2D engine, with 4Kp30 H.265/H.264 encode and decode.
Interfaces are unusually generous for a 55 x 30 mm module: dual GbE plus a 10 GbE port, two PCIe Gen 3 lanes, eight UARTs, five CAN buses, eight ADCs and WiFi 6 with Bluetooth 5.4. Memory scales from 4 to 16 GB of LPDDR5 and 8 to 128 GB of eMMC, over a -40 to 85 C industrial range.
Key Benefits
Application plus real-time in one module: Cortex-A55 Linux cores alongside M7 and M33 co-processors, removing the separate safety MCU. On-module NPU: 2 TOPS of eIQ Neutron acceleration for vision and audio inference without adding a discrete card. High-speed I/O ceiling: a 10 GbE port and two PCIe Gen 3 lanes suit multi-camera and industrial vision gateways.
Applications
AI-driven industrial automation, machine vision and inspection, autonomous systems, smart-city infrastructure, agricultural technology, medical devices requiring long lifecycle availability, and edge gateways needing both Linux and hard real-time domains.
