Overview

The Toradex Aquila IQ8 is Toradex's first Qualcomm-powered System-on-Module, pairing the Qualcomm Dragonwing IQ-8275 with the rugged 400-pin Aquila architecture and the full Toradex software, BSP and long-term lifecycle stack. The silicon brings an 8-core Kryo Gen 6 CPU split four performance and four efficiency cores, a Hexagon NPU rated at 40 dense TOPS, Adreno 623 integrated graphics and a dedicated 4-core MCU for real-time and low-power duties.

Camera throughput is a headline capability: three quad-lane MIPI CSI interfaces supporting up to twelve concurrent camera streams make the module a strong fit for multi-camera vision systems, 360-degree and surround-view platforms, and autonomous machine perception. The Aquila form factor exposes Gigabit Ethernet, SGMII and PCIe with 1.8V I/O while encapsulating the high-speed layout complexity, so carrier boards can be simpler and cheaper to develop than on standard form factors such as SMARC — without giving up IQ-8275 feature access.

Software is where Toradex differentiates. The module supports Yocto Linux and Torizon, Toradex's continuous-delivery embedded Linux platform, which adds secure remote and offline OTA updates, device monitoring, remote access and subsystem vulnerability management. Toradex ships SPDX and CycloneDX software bills of materials for every build and maintains a continuous CVE triage process — directly aimed at EU Cyber Resilience Act obligations, where non-compliance penalties exceed EUR 15 million.

A practical go-to-market detail: through the Works with Arduino programme, engineering teams can develop and validate on the Arduino VENTUNO Q today and deploy the same application on Aquila IQ8 for volume production, starting before modules ship.

Key Benefits

40 dense TOPS in a rugged module: Qualcomm Hexagon NPU acceleration with four Kryo Gen 6 performance cores for host-level AI workloads. 12 concurrent camera streams: three quad-lane MIPI CSI interfaces for surround-view and multi-sensor fusion. Simpler carrier boards: the 400-pin Aquila architecture encapsulates high-speed layout risk, cutting development cost versus SMARC. Torizon OTA and fleet management: secure remote updates and device monitoring out of the box. CRA-ready compliance: SPDX and CycloneDX SBOMs plus continuous CVE triage. Arduino VENTUNO Q bridge: start application development before silicon samples land.

Applications

Industrial automation and robotics — cleaning robots, autonomous machines, physical AI and VLA workflows; intelligent vision systems — IP, cloud and 360-degree cameras, body cameras, video collaboration; edge AI boxes and fleet AI computing; autonomous aerial systems and drones with vision-guided inspection; medical and diagnostic systems including patient monitoring and AI-assisted imaging.
