Overview
The IcyDock MB842MP-B turns a PCIe 4.0 x8 expansion slot into a removable two-bay M.2 NVMe dock. Two M.2 NVMe SSDs sit in tool-less carriers, so they can be swapped from outside the chassis instead of being bolted to the motherboard.
Because both drives share one x8 slot, the host must support PCIe bifurcation. IcyDock states that only specific Intel chipsets - X299/X299X/X399 (Gen 3) and W790 (Gen 5) - provide the x4x4x4x4 configuration needed for both bays to be detected; on the more common x8/x4/x4 layout one bay may not operate. That platform requirement is the main planning constraint for the MB842MP-B.
