Overview
Overhead busway is a different way of distributing rack power. Instead of home-running cable and whip to every cabinet, a busway is a prefabricated extruded aluminium housing carrying rolled copper busbars with a continuous access slot along its length. Plug-in units (tap-off boxes) are inserted into that slot wherever power is needed.
The operational consequence is that rack power becomes reconfigurable. Adding, relocating or removing a power drop no longer requires an electrician to pull new cable and a maintenance window to terminate it: the plug-in unit carries its own integrated circuit protection and is inserted without de-energising the busway. In an AI hall where rack layouts change between GPU generations, that is the difference between a week of electrical work and a shift of re-plugging.
Starline's range covers the whole density spectrum. Standard Track Busway runs 40 A to 1250 A at IP2X/IP3X; Series-S adds IP54 sealing from 100 A to 1200 A for harsher environments; High Power Busway reaches 6300 A at up to IP65. The T3 (100–225 A) and T5 (250–1250 A) sections cover typical rack rows, while the enclosed RCP IP68 and XCP-HP/XCP-S systems handle 630 A to 6300 A at row and room level. End feed, plug, retrofit and standalone metering options bring the same busway into the power-monitoring framework.
Key Benefits
Reconfigurable rack power with no downtime — plug-in units with integrated circuit protection are added or removed at any point along a live busway. 40 A to 6300 A of coverage, IP2X to IP65 sealing, UL857 listing and torque-free joints that need no field maintenance.
Applications
AI data halls where rack layouts change between GPU generations, mission critical facilities requiring no-downtime power changes, retrofit metering of existing overhead power, manufacturing and commercial buildings, and any row where cable-and-whip power distribution cannot keep pace with rack turnover.
