Overview

The STMicroelectronics VD16GZ adds a near-infrared channel to ST's 1.53 MP global-shutter platform. It uses the same 1124 x 1364 array and 2.61 um backside-illuminated pixels as the colour VD66GY, but its filter is RGB-NIR, so it captures visible colour and near-infrared information simultaneously rather than requiring a separate IR camera.

That combination of global shutter, colour and NIR in one 1/4-inch sensor suits embedded vision tasks that must work in both daylight and IR illumination - for example eye-tracking and gaze estimation, face authentication with liveness detection, and industrial inspection where visible and IR data are both needed. Like the rest of the BrightSense family it uses CDTI and 3D stacking, and is available as a die or in an OBGA package.
