Overview
Singular Photonics launched Litavis, described as the world's first SPAD-based image sensor that uses in-pixel processing to unify imaging, timing, histogramming and photon statistics on a single chip. It was named a finalist for the VISION Award 2026 at the Stuttgart show.
Litavis combines single-photon sensitivity with integrated digital photon processing directly on-chip and in-pixel. It delivers continuous 256 × 256-pixel photon-counting imaging under low-light conditions while simultaneously generating time-stamped photon events on a 64 × 64 macropixel grid, providing picosecond-resolution photon timing alongside full-resolution photon counting.
Because photon events are handled on the sensor, Litavis reduces the volume of raw data that must be transferred and processed externally, enabling faster decision-making, lower latency and improved power efficiency. Its modes are reconfigurable purely through software, so users can adapt sensor behaviour without redesigning hardware.
Key Benefits
Computational imaging on the sensor itself. Litavis turns a SPAD array into a programmable computational engine — depth, timing, intensity and photon statistics from one chip and one software configuration — cutting both the external processing burden and the integration effort for advanced time-resolved vision.
Applications
Depth sensing and 3D perception for robotics and physical AI, low-light industrial inspection, autonomous navigation, scientific and medical imaging, and time-resolved fluorescence or LiDAR-style measurement.
