Overview
Zivid builds industrial 3D colour cameras for robot guidance, and the Zivid 3 series is its current flagship. The design goal is consistent point-cloud quality across the whole working volume: the Zivid 3 XL250 covers a 2.5 m2 field of view out to 4.5 m, which is enough to see a full standard pallet — up to 1.2 × 1.2 m and 2.3 m tall — in a single capture, so a depalletizing robot can pick from the top layer down to the base without repositioning the camera.
The distinguishing technical choices are a binocular 3D capture geometry that cancels artifacts from vertical reflections, and an eye-safe blue laser light source with strong ambient-light suppression. Together they let the camera render black, shiny and transparent objects — the class of parts that breaks single-baseline structured light — without an enclosure or a change in lighting conditions.
Beyond the point cloud, Zivid 3 outputs 2D colour images, surface normals, depth maps and barcodes from the same sensor with native pixel-to-point mapping, so a vision stack does not need a second camera for identification. Images are usefully fast too: 50 ms for a standard 2D plus 3D capture, 150 ms for transparent materials and under 500 ms for a full pallet.
Key Benefits
True-to-reality point clouds with 99.8 percent dimension trueness and micron-class precision. Wide working volume — 2.5 m2 at up to 4.5 m on the XL250. One sensor, every modality — 2D, 3D, normals, depth and barcodes. Factory-hardened — IP65, 15G shock, 5000+ hours of accelerated lifetime testing.
Applications
Robotic bin picking and depalletization, piece picking in e-commerce fulfilment, machine tending, parcel induction, welding and surface-finishing guidance, and automated inspection in manufacturing, logistics, agriculture and medical robotics.
