Overview
The OMRON FH Series is a machine vision platform built around pairing a compact controller with the FHV7 all-in-one smart camera. The controller carries a 4-core Intel Core i7 processor with 8 GB of RAM, and combines conventional rule-based inspection tools — shape search, edge measurement, code reading — with AI algorithms developed from OMRON's image-sensing work.
The two AI capabilities that matter most in production are the pre-trained scratch-detection filter and AI Fine Matching. The scratch filter detects subtle blemishes with sensitivity approaching an experienced human inspector, while AI Fine Matching is trained specifically to separate real defects from weld marks, shadows, surface patterns, non-uniform textures and reflections, which is what eliminates the false rejects that make learned inspection expensive to run.
The FHV7 camera packages sensing, illumination and inference in an IP67 body with autofocus optics available in five focal lengths, a 6.3 MP or 12 MP colour sensor and a built-in multi-colour light. On the controller, multi-line random trigger mode lets a single unit run up to eight cameras independently, and one perpetual licence covers all of them — no per-camera or per-year fee.
Key Benefits
AI Fine Matching suppresses over-detection on textured, reflective and variable surfaces. FHV7 integrates camera, light and processing in one IP67 device. Up to 8 cameras, one licence — perpetual licensing keeps total cost predictable. Open industrial networking — EtherNet/IP, PROFINET and EtherCAT.
Applications
Defect and scratch inspection, bead and adhesive verification, OCR/OCV and traceability, colour sorting, 2D robot guidance and dimensional measurement in automotive, electronics, pharmaceuticals, baked goods and packaged-goods manufacturing.
