Overview
The KEYENCE VS Series is a self-contained smart camera that puts the full vision pipeline — image capture, lighting control, AI inference and inspection logic — inside one IP67-rated enclosure. Instead of matching a camera, a lens and a light to each inspection, the VS Series integrates a 19-lens optical system controlled by ZoomTrax, so a single camera model can cover a wide range of mounting distances and fields of view without changing lenses.
Two families of tools run on the same image. Proprietary KEYENCE AI algorithms cover segmentation, detection, classification and OCR for inspections that rule-based vision cannot handle reliably, while the established rule-based tool set remains available for deterministic measurement and presence checks. Learning a new AI inspection requires only a few dozen images and a general-purpose PC.
For system designers the integration story is deliberately simple: PoE IEEE 802.3at on an M12 connector carries both power and data, the lighting connector drives a snap-on high-intensity ring light, and four insulated digital I/O points connect to a PLC. The camera body is rated IP67, so the unit can sit directly on a machine in washdown or dust-laden environments.
