Overview

Cactus Technologies builds industrial grade flash storage for embedded systems where a commercial SSD would be the first component to fail. Its industrial SATA lines are built on high-quality SLC NAND from Kioxia, a choice that trades raw density for the write endurance and long-term data retention that industrial and medical designs need — the 940S 2.5″ family, for example, is rated from 480 TBW at 8 GB to 15,360 TBW at 256 GB.

The product line spans the form factors legacy embedded platforms still use: 2.5″ 7 mm SATA III, SATA II, mSATA (JEDEC MO-300), IDE and CompactFlash. Environmental ratings are the differentiator — 3,000 G shock and 20 G vibration to MIL-STD-883G methods, operation to 100,000 feet, and temperature options running from 0-70°C through -40 to +85°C to an optional -45°C to +90°C range for under-hood and outdoor installations.

Because the drive presents itself as a standard 512-byte-sector SATA disk, host software and qualification work are not disturbed by the move to flash, and the firmware-remap architecture lets Cactus keep the same host interface across future NAND generations. Firmware is field-upgradeable while the bill of materials stays locked for long-life programmes.

Key Benefits

Endurance where it matters: SLC NAND with up to 15,360 TBW outlasts TLC designs by a wide margin in write-heavy logging and data-recording duty. Extreme temperature headroom: optional -45 to +90°C operation covers under-hood, outdoor and avionics enclosures that standard -40 to +85°C drives cannot. Drop-in integration: standard SATA/IDE signalling plus mSATA and CompactFlash options let existing platforms move to flash without a redesign or host software change.

Applications

Embedded industrial computing, medical devices, transportation and rail systems, military and aerospace storage, factory automation controllers, kiosk and ticketing systems, and long-life OEM platforms needing locked bills of material.
