Overview
The URVE Board A55 is a Rockchip RK3566 platform delivered as a system-on-module with a compatible carrier board, aimed at applications that must run continuously rather than development projects that run on a bench. Its Rockchip RK3566 SoC provides four Arm® Cortex®-A55 cores at 1.8 GHz alongside an Arm® Mali™-G52-2EE GPU supporting OpenGL, Vulkan and OpenCL — enough graphics and compute capability for multimedia content display, HMI rendering and light inference work.
The design prioritises longevity and mechanical robustness over peak performance. Passive cooling and the total absence of moving parts make the board vibration-resistant and suited to harsh environments, while a built-in RTC backup battery keeps time accurate through power interruptions — a detail that matters for logging, scheduling and licence enforcement in fielded equipment. Memory is 2 GB of DDR3 with 8 GB of eMMC onboard, expandable through SATA and microSD.
I/O is unusually broad for the form factor. The carrier exposes Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, and pinouts for UART, ADC and RS485, while the edge connector adds RS232, GPIO, I2S and SPI. Display options cover HDMI 2.0a plus LVDS, eDP and MIPI interfaces, and audio is available both as a 3.5 mm jack and a TOSLINK optical output — useful in industrial signage and kiosk builds where electrical isolation of the audio path is desirable.
An optional expansion module built around the RP2040 microcontroller adds Wi-Fi (802.11bgn 2.4 GHz) and Bluetooth (2.1/4.2), onboard temperature sensing, pinouts for humidity, CO2 and PIR sensors, and support for Power over Ethernet and 24V DC input — all in a 41 × 70 mm footprint. Software support covers Debian 11, Android 12 and URVE Linux (Buildroot), with Docker compatibility for containerised deployment.
QS Compute supplies the URVE Board A55, its carrier and the RP2040 expansion module for industrial automation, IoT, robotics and multimedia display programmes. Contact us for volume pricing and carrier configuration.
Key Benefits
24/7/365 duty cycle — designed for continuous industrial operation, not bench development. Zero moving parts with passive cooling for vibration-prone installations. RTC backup battery preserves accurate time across power loss. Broad I/O including SATA, RS485, RS232, GPIO, I2S, SPI and ADC. Multiple display paths — HDMI 2.0a, LVDS, eDP and MIPI. Docker compatible with Debian 11, Android 12 and Buildroot support.
Applications
Industrial automation controllers and machine interfaces; IoT gateways and data acquisition nodes; robotics and AGV subsystems; multimedia content display and digital signage; fleet and asset monitoring where continuous uptime is required; edge nodes in vibration-heavy or dust-exposed environments; CO2, humidity and environmental monitoring via the RP2040 expansion module.
