Overview
The StarFive VisionFive 2 Lite is the fourth generation of StarFive's RISC-V single board computer line and a deliberate move down-market. It keeps the same JH7110 silicon family that made the VisionFive 2 a reference platform for open-ISA development, but steps the JH7110S variant down to four 64-bit RISC-V cores at 1.25 GHz and adopts a smaller, Raspberry Pi-style footprint to cut the board price to $19.90 at campaign pricing.
Storage and expansion are where the Lite version diverges most usefully from hobbyist boards. Alongside microSD there is an option for on-board eMMC, and an M.2 M-key slot accepts either high-speed NVMe storage or an accelerator module - the same slot architecture that turns these boards into practical edge-AIoT nodes rather than demonstration platforms. Networking is gigabit Ethernet with optional PoE, plus optional Wi-Fi, and display is covered by a single HDMI port and a two-lane MIPI DSI connector for embedded panels.
StarFive's stated target is education, AIoT, smart home and industrial IoT, with image and video processing the highlighted capability. For integrators evaluating RISC-V against ARM for cost-sensitive edge nodes, the VisionFive 2 Lite is the low-risk entry point: a well-documented Linux port, an open toolchain and a 40-pin GPIO header that accepts standard Raspberry Pi HAT-class accessories.
Key Benefits
$19.90 entry price makes RISC-V viable for volume edge and education deployments. Quad-core 64-bit RISC-V at 1.25 GHz with an Imagination GPU handles video and imaging workloads on an open ISA. M.2 M-key plus optional eMMC removes the microSD reliability problem in industrial enclosures. 40-pin GPIO and MIPI DSI reuse the existing Raspberry Pi accessory ecosystem.
Applications
Edge AIoT nodes, industrial IoT gateways, video and image processing endpoints, educational RISC-V development, smart-home controllers, digital signage players and open-ISA product prototyping.
