Overview

The Critical Link MitySOM-A5E is a system-on-module family built on the Altera Agilex 5 FPGA. It combines up to 656KLE of FPGA fabric with dual Arm Cortex-A55 and Cortex-A76 hard processor cores, 24 high-speed transceivers and dual banks of RAM, and is offered in several production-ready form factors and configurations.

The module's relevance to edge AI comes from its DSP tensor blocks, which Critical Link rates at up to 26 TOPS. That puts hardware-accelerated inference directly in the FPGA fabric rather than behind a discrete accelerator, which matters where deterministic latency and tightly coupled sensor processing are the requirement. Critical Link demonstrated the family in a Holoscan Sensor Bridge configuration processing five camera feeds at ultra-low latency for robotics and medical use cases.

Security is addressed at the module level with CRA-ready features including secure boot, tamper proofing and device/identity keys — a set that aligns with the EU Cyber Resilience Act obligations now facing connected industrial products. The MitySOM-A5E sits alongside the MitySOM-QC6490 (Qualcomm Dragonwing QCS6490) and MitySOM-AM62x/A/P (TI Sitara AM62x/A/P) families in Critical Link's portfolio, all backed by the company's long-lifecycle supply model.

Key Benefits

Up to 656KLE of Altera Agilex 5 fabric with dual Cortex-A55 and Cortex-A76 cores delivers FPGA flexibility with application-class processing. 26 TOPS from AI-optimised DSP tensor blocks puts inference acceleration inside the fabric. 24 high-speed transceivers and dual RAM banks support sensor- and camera-heavy carrier designs. CRA-ready security with secure boot, tamper proofing and device/identity keys addresses regulatory requirements for connected products. Proven in a five-camera Holoscan Sensor Bridge demo at ultra-low latency for robotics and medical workloads.

Applications

Robotics and multi-camera sensor fusion, medical imaging and diagnostics, industrial machine vision, deterministic ultra-low-latency inference, defence and aerospace processing, and carrier-board designs that need FPGA fabric plus hardened Linux application cores.
