Overview
Lattice's Avant-G and Avant-X families extend the Avant platform into the mid-range FPGA tier, where the requirement is usually connectivity rather than raw logic: aggregating many sensors or interfaces into one device, bridging protocols, and doing lightweight AI preprocessing on the way through. Both families are built on the same low-power Avant architecture and share the same fabric resources, so the choice between them is made on I/O and SerDes rather than on logic capacity.
Three device sizes are offered in each family. The Avant-G30, G50 and G70 and the matching Avant-X30, X50 and X70 carry 262K, 409K and 637K system logic cells respectively, alongside 14.4, 22.7 and 35.6 Mb of embedded block RAM and 700, 1,120 and 1,800 DSP blocks with 18 x 18-bit fracturable multipliers. All devices offer up to 7,200 INT8 multipliers, which is enough to implement AI/ML preprocessing and high-speed packet buffering directly in the fabric.
The families diverge on interconnect. Avant-G targets general-purpose designs with up to 28 SerDes channels at 12.5 Gbps, a hardened PCIe Gen3 x8 link layer, 10G Ethernet, and LPDDR4/DDR4 memory interfaces to 2400 Mbps. Avant-X raises the SerDes ceiling to 25 Gbps per channel, adds PCIe Gen4 x8 with hard DMA, adds DDR5 support at 2100 Mbps, and raises total system bandwidth to as much as 1 Terabit per second — the configuration for signal aggregation and high-throughput pipelines.
Security is a first-class feature on this platform. Both families include advanced bitstream protection, and Avant-X adds a security engine that encrypts user data in motion with quantum-safe cryptography — a requirement increasingly appearing in defence, telecom and regulated industrial designs.
The trade-off Lattice is selling is power. Avant devices are specified at up to 2.5x lower power than competing mid-range FPGAs, in packages from a 9 x 11 mm FOWLP up to a 19 x 23 mm FCBGA, across commercial, industrial, automotive and defence temperature grades. QS Compute supplies Avant-G and Avant-X devices, the Versa development board and Lattice Radiant toolchain licences for evaluation and production.
Key Benefits
Two families, one fabric: pick Avant-G for PCIe Gen3 and 12.5G SerDes, Avant-X for PCIe Gen4, 25G SerDes and DDR5. Up to 637K logic cells and 7,200 INT8 multipliers: real AI preprocessing and packet buffering in fabric. Up to 2.5x lower power: suited to fanless and sealed industrial enclosures. Quantum-safe security on Avant-X: encrypts user data in motion for regulated deployments.
Applications
Multi-sensor and multi-interface aggregation, protocol bridging and adapter cards, edge AI and ML preprocessing in line with camera or radar data, 25G and 100G line-rate packet buffering, industrial and automotive vision pipelines, defence and aerospace signal processing, and machine vision frame-grabber or capture-card designs.
