Overview
The Memblaze PBlaze7 7940 is a PCIe 5.0 enterprise NVMe SSD built on Memblaze's own MUFP firmware platform. It delivers up to 14.1 GB/s of 128K sequential read and 10.8 GB/s sequential write, with sustained 4K random read of 2,800K IOPS and steady-state random write up to 700K IOPS on the mixed-use 7946 variants. Read latency is quoted at 56 microseconds and write latency at 8 microseconds.
Memblaze claims roughly 2.5 times the performance and 1.5 times the power efficiency of a conventional PCIe 4.0 drive, translating to up to 970 MB/s of sequential read per watt inside a sub-25 W envelope. That efficiency ratio is the reason the platform is aimed at AI pipelines, where storage power competes directly with accelerator power for the same rack budget.
The series spans 3.84 TB to 30.72 TB on the 7940 read-intensive line and 3.2 TB to 12.8 TB on the 7946, across 2.5-inch U.2, E3.S, E1.S and HHHL AIC form factors. Enterprise features include end-to-end data path protection, power loss protection, 128K write atomicity, NVMe-MI 1.2b out-of-band management and ARP, with NVMe 2.0 and OCP 2.0 compliance, a 2.5 million hour MTBF and a 5-year warranty.
Key Benefits
PCIe 5.0 throughput at Gen4-competitive power — up to 970 MB/s sequential read per watt in under 25 W. 2,800K sustained 4K random read IOPS keeps GPU pipelines fed. 56 / 8 microsecond latency reduces time-to-first-token penalties in inference. Four form factors — U.2, E3.S, E1.S and HHHL AIC fit existing and next-generation servers. Full enterprise feature set with PLP, end-to-end protection, NVMe-MI 1.2b and 128K write atomicity. Broad OS certification including VMware ESXi and major Linux distributions.
Applications
AI and deep-learning training data pipelines, high-performance software-defined storage, database searching and indexing, CDN and hyperscale cloud storage, SAP HANA and ERP, high-frequency trading, and online payment systems.
