Overview
The Solidigm D5-P5336 is the QLC tier of Solidigm's data center SSD line, scaling to 61.44 TB in a U.2 15 mm bay and 122.88 TB in E1.L 9.5 mm. It is the drive class that replaced nearline HDD arrays for read-mostly bulk storage - a single U.2 slot holds more than an 8-drive 3.5-inch HDD tray.
The trade is explicit: QLC media gives capacity and cost per terabyte, and in exchange the drive is tuned for sequential and read-mostly access rather than 4K random-write. Solidigm's own reference configurations model it at roughly a 9% duty cycle in AI data-lake and Hadoop-style workloads, backed by RAID 1 mirroring - which is exactly the access profile those tiers already have.
Power is the quiet advantage. A 61.44 TB U.2 unit runs 16 W average active write and 5 W idle; the equivalent HDD capacity would be dozens of spinning disks, each with its own 5-10 W idle draw and vibration budget. For petabyte-scale warm tiers, that ratio changes rack density more than any performance number.
Key Benefits
Up to 122.88 TB per drive — replaces whole HDD trays. 5 W idle — a fraction of an equivalent HDD array's standby draw. 7,000 MB/s throughput — sequential reads far beyond an HDD tier. Purpose-built duty cycle — validated for read-mostly AI data lakes and object stores.
Applications
AI data lakes and dataset repositories, object and blob storage, backup and archive targets, content delivery origin tiers, Hadoop and analytics clusters, and any warm tier where capacity and idle power dominate.
