The Micron 9650 NVMe SSD is a landmark product — the world's first PCIe Gen6 data center SSD to enter mass production (July 2026). Delivering up to 28 GB/s sequential read (double the 14 GB/s ceiling of PCIe Gen5 drives), 14 GB/s sequential write, and up to 5.5 million random read IOPS, the 9650 fundamentally eliminates the data bottleneck that starves modern AI GPUs of training and inference data.
Built on Micron's vertically integrated G9 TLC NAND and a next-generation controller, the 9650 is available in two endurance tiers: 9650 PRO (1 DWPD, 7.68–30.72 TB) for read-intensive AI data pipelines, and 9650 MAX (3 DWPD, 6.4–25.6 TB) for mixed-use workloads demanding heavy writes. Form factors span E1.S 9.5 mm (liquid cooling optimized), E1.S 15 mm (air cooling), and E3.S 1T.
Compared to its Gen5 predecessor (Micron 9550), the 9650 delivers 100% higher sequential read, 40% higher sequential write, and 67% higher random read — all within a 25W power envelope. With OCP 2.6 compliance, GPU-Direct compatibility, and liquid cooling support, the 9650 is purpose-built for the next generation of AI factories and hyperscale data centers deploying PCIe Gen6-capable servers in H2 2026.
