Overview

SIMATIC IOT2050 is Siemens' open industrial IoT gateway for connecting production equipment to IT systems, clouds and Industrial Edge infrastructure. It is built on Texas Instruments Sitara AM65xx Arm processors: the dual-core variant uses an AM6528 with 1 GB of DDR4, and the quad-core variant uses an AM6548 with 2 GB of DDR4, both running at 1000 MHz.

Rather than a closed appliance, the IOT2050 is a freely programmable platform. It runs SIMATIC Industrial OS, a Debian-based Linux distribution, and supports high-level language programming with a wide range of Linux packages, so integrators can write data aggregation, protocol conversion and preprocessing logic directly on the device. An mPCIe slot accepts wireless and radio expansion cards, and the unit provides two Gigabit-class Industrial Ethernet ports, two USB ports, a serial interface and an Arduino-compatible header.

The fanless industrial design measures just 37 x 142 x 100 mm and accepts a 12 or 24 V DC supply with up to 5 ms of buffering at full load. Temperature monitoring, a watchdog and status LEDs support unattended operation, and the shock and vibration ratings suit direct cabinet mounting in production areas. QS Compute supplies the IOT2050 including the SIMATIC Industrial OS variants.

Key Benefits

Open Linux platform: SIMATIC Industrial OS with Debian packages and high-level language programming for custom gateway logic. Real industrial I/O heritage: dual Industrial Ethernet, serial, Arduino header and an mPCIe expansion slot in one compact unit. Edge-to-cloud path: designed to link plant data into Siemens Industrial Edge and cloud analytics. Fanless and shock-rated: 37 mm-wide DIN-rail-adjacent unit built for cabinet environments.

Applications

IIoT data aggregation at the machine level, protocol conversion between legacy equipment and cloud services, Industrial Edge preprocessing nodes, production line monitoring, energy and utility data collection, and retrofit connectivity for existing plant equipment.
