Overview
The ProSoft ELX3 ProLinx Edge Gateway solves a specific integration problem: a plant needs to move data off a legacy OT protocol into an IT system, and it also wants to run a small amount of code — a model, a rule engine, a custom driver — where that data originates. The ELX3 does both in one DIN-rail box instead of the customary two-device stack.
Protocol conversion is handled by the ProSoft ELX-EIP-MBTCP container, an ODVA conformance-tested EtherNet/IP to Modbus TCP/IP gateway, while user-defined Docker containers let integrators host machine learning inference, predictive maintenance logic or bespoke protocol drivers on the same hardware. Management is a local web UI, so no cloud dependency or external controller is required.
The hardware profile is the other half of the story: NXP i.MX 8M Mini Quad processing, 4 GB LPDDR4, 64 GB eMMC, four Gigabit Ethernet ports and redundant 12-24 V DC power in a 613 g aluminium DIN-rail housing rated -40 C to +70 C, IP30, Class I Division 2 with ATEX conformity and a 387,288-hour MTBF. Belden's wider industrial connectivity portfolio — Hirschmann OpEdge-4D gateways, GREYHOUND2000 managed switches with HSR redundancy, and the IAF-240 industrial firewall — is available alongside it through QS Compute.
Key Benefits
One box, two jobs. ODVA-tested EtherNet/IP to Modbus TCP conversion plus a Docker runtime for edge applications. Hazardous-area ready. Class I Division 2 and ATEX conformity with a -40 C to +70 C range. Genuinely maintenance-free. No moving parts, 12 W draw and a 387,288-hour MTBF.
Applications
OT/IT data acquisition and protocol conversion in automotive, consumer packaged goods, food and beverage, machine building, process manufacturing, warehousing and logistics, metals, and digital twin / asset condition monitoring programmes.
