Overview
The Intel Xeon 696X is the highest-core processor Intel ships as an individually boxed retail part in the Xeon 600 workstation family. It carries 64 Granite Rapids performance cores on LGA4710 and, along with the 698X, 678X, 676X, 658X and 654, is one of the SKUs available to buyers as a standalone boxed CPU rather than only through OEM and SI channels.
It runs on the same W890 platform as the rest of the line: up to 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes, native CXL 2.0 memory expansion, up to 4 TB of memory with MRDIMM support, and validated operation with up to eight PCIe 5.0 GPUs in a single workstation chassis.
Intel AMX with FP16 support gives the CPU a genuine role in AI pipelines, handling quantised inference and data preprocessing without shuttling traffic to the accelerators, and the oneAPI and OpenVINO toolchain carries over from the Xeon 6 server line.
Key Benefits
Boxed retail availability means single-unit purchases and faster integration turnarounds than tray-only SKUs. 64 P-cores for CPU-bound rendering, simulation and preprocessing. 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes and 8-GPU validation remove bus bottlenecks from multi-accelerator builds. 4 TB memory with CXL 2.0 for datasets larger than a conventional workstation memory map.
Applications
AI development workstations with multiple GPUs; CAE simulation including FEA and CFD; media rendering and VFX farms; data-science nodes needing large in-memory datasets and high PCIe fan-out.
