Overview
The Intel Xeon 658X is the entry point to the Xeon 600 workstation platform's X-series: 24 Granite Rapids performance cores on LGA4710 with the platform's full 128 PCIe 5.0 lane budget, CXL 2.0 support and 4 TB memory ceiling intact.
It exists so that a workstation can be specified with eight PCIe 5.0 GPUs and the Xeon 600 I/O without paying for 48 or 64 cores. That makes it the lean configuration for pure inference accelerators, where host CPU work is mostly data movement and scheduling.
Like every Xeon 600 workstation part it includes AMX with FP16, INT8 and BFLOAT16, AVX-512, and the oneAPI and OpenVINO software stack carried over from Xeon 6 servers.
Key Benefits
Cheapest route to 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes and eight-GPU validation. CXL 2.0 and 4 TB memory retained at the entry tier. 24 P-cores sized for accelerator-fed pipelines. AMX FP16 and AVX-512 for CPU-side inference and preprocessing.
Applications
Accelerator-first workstations where the GPUs do the compute; inference servers with modest host requirements; storage and data-movement nodes on the W890 platform; development machines used to prototype multi-GPU builds.
