Overview
The SSG-229J-5BU24JBF is the U.2 variant of Supermicro's Petascale JBOF. It trades the 36 E3.S bays of its sibling for 24 U.2 bays, which keeps it compatible with the enormous installed base of 15 mm U.2 SSDs and with single- or dual-ported U.2 qualified against existing storage controllers.
Both models place the NVMe-oF target on BlueField-3 DPUs in hot-swappable canisters rather than on an x86 head, so the data path stays short and the chassis can present the array to a GPU fabric at up to 800 Gb/s with no CPU in line.
