Overview
The CSE-947HE2C-R2K05JBOD is Supermicro's 4U top-load JBOD enclosure: the drives are loaded from above, so the chassis can be pulled forward in the rack and serviced without removing it from the rails — a real advantage in 60/90-drive AI storage tiers where a single failed drive should not cost a rack-out.
Six 15-slot SAS3 backplanes present the drives as one 12 Gb/s expander fabric on external Mini-SAS HD links, so a storage head, a JBOF controller canister or a DPU-based controller presents them as a scale-out NVMe/SAS pool. It is the density half of a two-tier AI storage design: hot data on E3.S NVMe JBOF shelves, warm and archive capacity on this chassis.
