Overview
The nVent SCHROFF Varistar LHX+ is a server cabinet with its heat exchanger built into the frame rather than added as a separate in-row unit. The air-to-water cooler mounts to the left or right of the 19-inch plane inside an 800 mm wide rack, which means the cabinet gives up no rack units to cooling — the entire 19-inch mounting space stays available for servers.
Air handling is contained: warm exhaust from the servers passes through the heat exchanger, heat transfers to the cooling medium and cooled air is returned in front of the 19-inch plane, with cold and warm plenums strictly separated so exhaust cannot recirculate. Cooling sits immediately next to the equipment it serves, which allows quick regulation of water and air volume flow and avoids over-cooling in partially filled racks. Fans are individually hot-swappable while the rack runs.
Mechanically the platform is rated to 1,600 kg of static load with water connections available from the top or bottom of the cabinet, a maximum water flow of 4.5 m³/h and a permitted pressure drop of 2.5 bar. Control and monitoring run over Modbus RTU, a web GUI or SNMP, with 110-230 V input, an option for redundant power supplies, and IP55 or EMC-shielded variants on request. Because the loop closes inside the cabinet, racks can be configured independently of the room, which suits AI clusters upgraded in phases.
Key Benefits
No rack units lost to cooling — the exchanger occupies the frame beside the 19-inch plane, so the full RU count stays usable. Closed, room-independent loop — strict cold/warm air separation removes recirculation and decouples the rack from room-level airflow. Serviceable under load — fans swap individually while the rack is live and water connections are available top and bottom. Instrumented — Modbus RTU, web GUI and SNMP monitoring with an option for redundant supplies.
Applications
High-density AI and GPU racks in retrofit data centres with limited room cooling, phased cluster expansions where rack-level heat capture is easier to schedule than room upgrades, edge and industrial sites needing an enclosed, IP55-capable cabinet, and any deployment where noise reduction from rack-contained cooling matters.
