Overview

The Gemini 338Le and Gemini 338Lg are Orbbec's newest entries in the Gemini 330 stereo 3D camera family, announced alongside the Physis robotics vision series. Both parts target the same engineering problem - reliable depth in environments where ambient light, reflective surfaces and other sensors would degrade a structured-light or time-of-flight solution - and differ primarily in how they connect to the host.

The Gemini 338Le carries an industrial-grade Gigabit Ethernet interface, the right choice for fixed cells, logistics chutes and inspection stations where cable runs are long, the camera can be powered over the same plant network, and a standard switch port is simpler than an automotive serializer link. The Gemini 338Lg uses high-speed GMSL2 over FAKRA connectors, the automotive-grade coax standard already used across ADAS cameras and robot payloads, where a single thin coax carries video, control and power and the locking connector survives vibration.

For integrators the split is useful because it lets a single depth-sensing family serve both the fixed infrastructure and the moving platform in the same facility - the same depth model, the same SDK, two cabling philosophies. That reduces calibration and software work when a project spans a stationary inspection station and a mobile robot or autonomous vehicle.
