Overview

The STURDeCAM57 is e-con Systems' 5 MP global shutter RGB-IR GMSL2 camera, launched in March 2026 as the newest member of the rugged STURDeCAM line. It is aimed squarely at in-cabin sensing — driver monitoring systems and occupant monitoring systems — where a single camera has to produce a colour image for scene understanding and a near-infrared image for eye and face tracking in complete darkness.

Rather than streaming raw RGB-IR Bayer data to the host, the STURDeCAM57 carries an ISP that performs RGB-IR separation on the camera and outputs synchronised RGB and IR streams. That halves host-side processing and removes a common source of colour and IR misregistration. Integrated 940 nm illumination means the camera needs no external IR emitter, and high near-infrared quantum efficiency keeps the IR channel usable when ambient light is effectively zero.

Mechanically the camera is built for automotive-adjacent duty: a global shutter to prevent skew, an IP67 enclosure, and an operating range of -40 °C to 85 °C. GMSL2 is the primary interface with an optional FPD-Link IV variant, feeding NVIDIA Jetson platforms — including a CUOAGX configuration for Jetson AGX Orin. Stream health monitoring with automatic recovery makes it suitable for long unattended deployments where a dropped camera feed would otherwise be fatal.

Key Benefits

One camera, two streams — on-camera RGB-IR separation outputs synchronised RGB and IR without host processing. Sees in the dark with integrated 940 nm illumination and high NIR quantum efficiency. Global shutter eliminates motion artefacts on moving subjects. Automotive-grade temperature range from -40 °C to 85 °C in an IP67 enclosure. Self-healing video links through stream health monitoring and automatic recovery. GMSL2 or FPD-Link IV interface choice for different host capture hardware. Proven platform from an NVIDIA elite partner with a wide Jetson camera portfolio.

Applications

Driver monitoring systems (DMS) with gaze, blink and distraction detection. Occupant monitoring systems (OMS) for in-cabin safety. Fleet telematics and commercial vehicle camera systems. Industrial safety cell monitoring in variable light. Smart retail and access control requiring reliable face capture. Any edge AI vision workload on NVIDIA Jetson where RGB and IR must be captured by one camera.
