Overview

The BE-IIS GMSL2-2CAM from Brechel Electronic-Industrial Interface Systems is a dual-channel GMSL2 camera HAT for the Raspberry Pi 5, built around the Analog Devices MAX96716A GMSL2 deserializer. It accepts two remote cameras over Rosenberger FAKRA connectors at up to 6 Gbps each, with a Power over Coax filter and protection on every connector, and outputs dual MIPI CSI-2 to the Raspberry Pi CSI interfaces.

The published validated configuration runs two Sony IMX708 12 MP sensors — the sensor used in the Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3 — at 2304 × 1296 RAW10 over two CSI-2 lanes per camera, connected on 10-metre coaxial cables. Per-camera power is jumper-selectable at 5V, 9V, 12V, 16V or 24V, and the HAT itself can be powered from the 40-pin header or over USB-C. Linux integration uses the stock Raspberry Pi OS kernel with a bash installer script, so no custom kernel image is needed, and standard tools such as rpicam-hello work once installed.

Key Benefits

Long-range camera links: validated over 10-metre coax, far beyond CSI flex-cable limits. Dual channel with PoC: two 6 Gbps FAKRA inputs, each with Power over Coax. Jumper-selectable 5-24V camera power covers a wide range of industrial sensors. No custom kernel: stock Raspberry Pi OS kernel with a script-based driver install. Open documentation: schematic, 3D files and BOM published.

Applications

Industrial machine-vision rigs where the camera must sit metres from the compute unit, robotics and AGV perception, automotive camera prototyping, stereo-vision experiments, GMSL2 technology evaluation, and remote or hazardous-area camera deployments.
