Overview

The SmartPod EVO is the easiest entry into immersion: a compact pod that arrives ready to fill, connects to an ordinary facility water loop, and takes 41 RU of 19-inch gear or 39 OU of OCP ORv3 gear at 140 kW+ of dissipation. Nothing about the surrounding data hall needs to change except the final connection — which is why it is used as the first immersion deployment on a site rather than a full hall rebuild.

Cooling is handled in-tank: single or dual CDU options, with 2N built-in pump redundancy so a pump service does not stop the load. The dry zone keeps PDUs and structured cabling out of the fluid, and modular cable guides mean a normal 19-inch patching discipline still applies. Submer's Smart DC software provides the monitoring interface and a DCIM API for integration into existing tooling.

Submer publishes that immersed hardware sees 20–50 % longer service life, and that immersed deployments run at a PUE near 1.03 when paired with secondary cooling — the difference between roughly 30 W per kW of cooling power and 670 W per kW for air. That is the business case: on a 140 kW pod the cooling overhead alone is worth more than the pod's footprint.

Key Benefits

Fastest path to immersion — plug-and-play pod that attaches to a standard water loop. No single point of failure — 2N pumps and optional dual CDU. Sustainability that is measurable — PUE near 1.03, extended hardware life, no direct water use in dry-cooling configurations.

Applications

First immersion deployments in existing colocation space, edge and regional data centres with constrained cooling, HPC clusters, and heat-reuse projects where the recovered warm water feeds district or campus heating.
