Overview
Rittal's Liquid Cooling Package is a family of air/water heat exchangers that bolt onto an IT rack and remove heat at the rack boundary, rather than a CDU that feeds cold plates. The CW (chilled water) versions — LCP Rack CW/CWG (model 3313130) and LCP Inline CW/CWG, plus the LCP Inline EC at SK 3300.470 — are rated to 30 kW of useful cooling with water connections at DN 40 and a 10 bar working pressure.
The operating principle is simple: the unit draws hot exhaust air from the rear of the server enclosure, passes it through a water-cooled heat exchanger, and returns cooled air to the front of the rack or into the cold aisle. Because the heat leaves in water rather than air, the room-level CRAC load drops by the same amount, which is how a data hall can add high-density racks without re-engineering the perimeter air conditioning. It is the least invasive way to raise rack density in an existing air-cooled room.
Mechanically the units are built for serviceability: EC fans are infinitely variable and can be exchanged while the system runs, control is closed-loop on server intake temperature with a two-way valve, and the fan modules can be added in pairs (3 or 6 modules) to match the load. Noise is the main trade-off — up to 88 dB(A) at one metre on the three-fan configuration, which puts these units in machine-room rather than office-adjacent environments. Rittal also offers DX variants rated 5-20 kW using an inverter scroll compressor for sites with no chilled water available.
Key Benefits
30 kW of rack-level heat removal with no change to the servers. Heat leaves in water, cutting room CRAC load and raising achievable hall density. EC fans, hot-swappable with the system running reduce service downtime. Closed-loop control on server intake temperature with a two-way valve. DN 40 connections at 10 bar match standard hydronic infrastructure. Scalable fan modules (3 or 6) let capacity follow the load.
Applications
High-density racks in existing air-cooled data halls; IT cooling where perimeter CRAC capacity is exhausted; telecom and enterprise equipment rooms; laboratory and industrial IT enclosures; retrofit of rack cooling without facility water re-design; DX variant deployment where no chilled water is available.
