Overview

The Wallys DR5424 is an embedded router board built on the Qualcomm IPQ5424 — also marketed as the Dragonwing NPro A7 platform — and follows Qualcomm's AP.MI01.2 reference design. It exists for OEMs and integrators building Wi-Fi 7 access points, IoT gateways and industrial wireless infrastructure rather than for end users, so it is supplied as a board rather than an enclosed product.

The radio side is tri-band 4x4 MU-MIMO 802.11be across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz, with per-chain limits of 23 dBm, 21 dBm and 19 dBm respectively and channel widths up to 240 MHz in the 5 GHz band and 320 MHz in the 6 GHz band. Aggregate throughput reaches roughly 22 Gbps. The SoC also carries an integrated accelerator tuned for AI models specific to Wi-Fi and networking workloads, which is where the Dragonwing NPro A7 positioning comes from.

The wired side pairs two 10 Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 ports, configurable as WAN or LAN, with four 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports — a split that suits an AP with a 10G uplink and 2.5G access ports. Memory runs to 4 GB or 8 GB of 32-bit DDR4 with 256 MB NAND and 32 MB NOR flash for firmware, and the board adds USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, JTAG, a 12-pin TTL UART header, and takes 12 V DC at up to 5 A.

Key Benefits

Tri-band 4x4 Wi-Fi 7 with 320 MHz channels in 6 GHz delivers about 22 Gbps aggregate for high-density deployments. Two 10GbE plus four 2.5GbE ports give a clean 10G uplink / 2.5G access topology on one board. The IPQ5424's networking-specific AI accelerator enables on-AP traffic classification and optimisation. 4/8 GB DDR4 with 256 MB NAND plus 32 MB NOR leaves room for a full AP firmware image and controller-side features.

Applications

Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) access points for enterprise and campus, industrial wireless infrastructure, high-density venue and stadium Wi-Fi, IoT and edge gateways with 10G backhaul, private wireless deployments.
