Overview
Applied Optoelectronics (AOI) designs and manufactures high-speed optical transceivers using internally developed laser technology for intradatacenter and interdatacenter connectivity. AOI's datacenter portfolio now spans 400G, 800G and 1.6T transceivers plus 6.4T on-board optics and co-packaged/near-packaged optics solutions.
AOI's 1.6T transceivers are engineered for next-generation AI clusters and the emerging 102.4T switching generation, while its 800G single-mode transceivers target spine switching and high-bandwidth GPU-cluster interconnect. In March 2026 AOI announced its first volume order for 1.6T datacenter transceivers from a long-term major hyperscale customer, following a $53M+ 800G order shipping from Q2 2026.
AOI is expanding manufacturing across its Sugar Land, Texas headquarters and Taiwan facility, targeting combined output of more than 500,000 800G and 1.6T transceivers per month by the end of 2026 — a notable U.S.-based high-volume 800G/1.6T supply base.
Key Benefits
In-house laser technology improves supply control and cost; 102.4T-era 1.6T modules align with next-gen switch fabrics; 6.4T OBO plus CPO/NPO cover emerging packaging models; U.S. production capacity supports domestic AI-datacenter build-outs.
Applications
Hyperscale and AI-cluster optical interconnect, spine/leaf switch fabrics, 800G-to-1.6T migration, optical on-board and co-packaged optics deployments, and CATV/telecom transport.
