Overview

congatec’s Intel Core Ultra Series 3 module family is significant less for any single part number than for what it removes from the bill of materials. With up to 180 TOPS of total AI compute distributed across an integrated NPU5 (up to 50 TOPS), a 12-core Xe3 GPU (roughly 120 TOPS) and up to 10 TOPS on the CPU complex, these COM-HPC and COM Express modules eliminate the discrete AI accelerator card in most embedded AI designs. That is a structural change for industrial equipment builders who have spent the last several design cycles bolting an M.2 or PCIe accelerator onto a carrier board.

The silicon is Intel’s Panther Lake generation on the Intel 18A process, topped by Core Ultra X9 and X7 SKUs with up to 16 cores split across performance, efficiency and low-power-efficiency tiers. Memory support scales to 96GB of soldered LPDDR5X or socketed LPCAMM2 with optional in-band ECC — the latter being especially relevant for edge AI workloads where a single flipped bit in an inference result is a safety issue. The Xe Display Engine drives up to three independent 6K displays, which covers vision-guided robotics HMI and multi-head machine control.

The portfolio spans four form factors so that both new and legacy programmes are addressed. New compact designs get COM-HPC Mini (conga-HPC/mPTL) with PCIe Gen 5 and USB4; new full-performance designs get COM-HPC Client Size A (conga-HPC/cPTL); customers refreshing cost-sensitive legacy systems get COM Express Type 6 Compact (conga-TC1000) or Type 10 Mini (conga-MC1000). The conga-TC1000r adds a ruggedised build with screw-locked LPCAMM2 memory for high-vibration environments — a practical detail that matters more than raw TOPS once a module is mounted on a moving machine.

Software readiness is a real differentiator here. congatec’s aReady.COM programme ships modules pre-licensed for ctrlX OS, Ubuntu Pro or KontronOS, while aReady.VT puts a hypervisor on the module so real-time control, HMI, AI inference and IoT gateway functions can be consolidated onto a single piece of hardware — and aReady.IOT supplies the data-exchange and cloud-connectivity building blocks. Supported operating systems include Windows 11 and Windows 11 IoT Enterprise, Yocto and Linux. For vendors building robotic cells, medical devices, transportation systems or retail point-of-sale terminals with long lifecycle commitments, that application-ready layer is often the difference between a module that is technically suitable and one that is deployable on schedule.

Target Applications

Industrial automation and robotic cells, machine control with local LLM and vision inference, smart city and transportation systems, healthcare and medical imaging devices, retail point-of-sale terminals, vision-guided robotics with SLAM and sensor fusion, and long-lifecycle embedded platforms replacing discrete AI accelerator cards.
