Overview
The Auvidea X242 is an industrial carrier board for NVIDIA's Jetson Thor T5000 module, aimed at edge AI, robotics, vision and high-bandwidth embedded systems in industrial and high-performance commercial applications. It is designed and manufactured in Germany, with custom configurations available on request.
The board provides dual 10GbE networking, a PCIe x16 expansion slot and NVMe storage support, with an M.2 socket for 4G LTE or 5G cellular. Cameras connect through a 16-lane CSI-2 camera connector, and up to four displays are driven over HDMI and DisplayPort Alt Mode on USB-C. Power is delivered across a wide 24-48V input with power modes up to 120W, and industrial safeguards include hot-swap control plus reverse-polarity and over-voltage protection.
A key engineering advantage is mechanical and electrical compatibility with Auvidea's earlier X23x carrier boards, which allows existing Jetson AGX Xavier and Orin designs to migrate to Jetson T5000 with minimal redesign. Multiple Jetson T5000 systems can also be linked over PCIe x8 or 10GbE to scale performance beyond a single module.
Software runs on JetPack 7.0 with Ubuntu 24.04. Auvidea notes the platform is not plug-and-play: specific BSP patches are required to bring up the 10GbE PHY and to get the PCIe switch negotiating correctly. Some display features, including single-cable touchscreen DP Alt Mode, are limited to the rev-3 board. The board is offered in a rev-2 beta and a rev-3 version that adds PCIe and display features, priced between €599 and €799 excluding VAT and shipping.
Key Benefits
Drop-in Jetson Thor upgrade path — X23x form-factor compatibility lets existing Xavier and Orin carrier designs move to T5000. Dual 10GbE plus PCIe x16 for high-bandwidth sensor and accelerator expansion. 16-lane CSI-2 camera connector supports dense multi-camera vision. 24-48V input up to 120W matches industrial and vehicle power rails directly. Built-in electrical protection — hot-swap, reverse-polarity and over-voltage guards. German design and manufacturing with custom configuration support.
Applications
Industrial robotics and AMR controllers, high-bandwidth multi-camera vision systems, autonomous vehicle compute platforms, machine vision integration requiring PCIe frame grabbers, scalable multi-module inference clusters, and legacy Xavier/Orin carrier redesigns targeting Jetson T5000.
