Overview
Kintex UltraScale+ Gen 2 augments the lower half of AMD's mid-range FPGA line with three devices — 2KU030P, 2KU040P and 2KU050P — spanning 328K to 491K system logic cells and up to 1,872 DSP slices. The family stays on a 16 nm FinFET process and is offered alongside the original Kintex UltraScale+ parts rather than replacing them, with a planned availability window running to 2045.
The headline change is memory. Where the comparable first-generation parts carried a single 64-bit DDR4 hard controller, Gen 2 devices integrate either four or six 32-bit LPDDR4X/5/5X blocks, which AMD rates at up to five times the memory bandwidth of the previous generation. Each device also carries PCIe Gen4 x8 hard IP, two 100G CMAC blocks and up to 24 GTY transceivers, which is what makes the family suitable for multistream frame grabbers and real-time diagnostic imaging pipelines.
Key Benefits
Hard LPDDR4X/5/5X controllers deliver up to 5x the memory bandwidth of the prior generation without burning fabric. 2x 100G CMAC plus PCIe Gen4 x8 cover line-rate networking and host links in hard IP. Up to 24 GTY transceivers connect multi-camera and multi-link front ends. Long availability to 2045+ suits industrial and medical products with decade-scale lifecycles.
Applications
Multistream frame grabbers, multi-camera machine-vision systems, ultrasound and other real-time diagnostic imaging, radar and signal-acquisition front ends, edge inference acceleration, and 100G packet-processing line cards.
