Overview
The IronWolf Pro 30TB (ST30000NT011) is Seagate's highest-capacity NAS-optimised drive built on CMR recording with a helium-sealed 7200 RPM platform. Unlike high-capacity drives that reach their density on shingled recording, this unit keeps conventional magnetic recording, so sustained random-write behaviour in RAID rebuilds and mixed workloads stays predictable.
Seagate rates it for a 550 TB-per-year workload across unlimited drive bays, with rotational vibration sensors specified to 12.5 rad/s² between 10 Hz and 1500 Hz, which is what allows dense multi-bay chassis to run 7200 RPM spindles without throughput collapse. Idle draw is 6.8 W and average operating draw is 8.3 W.
It ships 512e and carries a five-year limited warranty with three years of Rescue Data Recovery Services. For AI and media pipelines that stage large datasets on spinning media before GPU ingestion, 30TB per bay reduces enclosure count and the associated power and cooling overhead.
Key Benefits
30TB per bay on CMR, not SMR. Predictable rebuild and random-write behaviour in RAID arrays. Helium-sealed 7200 RPM platform at 6.8 W idle and 8.3 W average operating. Built for vibration-heavy chassis with rotational vibration sensors rated to 12.5 rad/s². 550 TB/year workload rating across unlimited bays, backed by a 5-year warranty and 3-year rescue service.
Applications
Multi-bay NAS and SAN tiers for AI dataset staging; nearline backup and archive repositories in GPU compute clusters; media asset libraries requiring sustained sequential write; RAID rebuild targets that demand CMR rather than shingled recording.
