Overview
The SanDisk DC SN861 is a PCIe Gen5 enterprise NVMe SSD covering U.2, E1.S and E3.S form factors. The 15.36 TB E3.S SKU (SanDisk part 0TS2595) is the top capacity of the E3.S range and the configuration aimed at AI and analytics servers using EDSFF sleds.
Relative to the previous-generation SN655, the Gen5 interface is the obvious step change, but the drive's differentiation runs deeper: Flexible Data Placement is exposed in the E1.S form factor to reduce write amplification, and the drive carries AES-XTS encryption, end-to-end data protection and TCG OPAL 2.01 out of the box.
Power is a deliberate design point. The controller keeps average idle consumption below 5 W, which matters in EDSFF deployments where many drives share a chassis thermal budget. Endurance is segmented by form factor: 1 DWPD for E1.S and E3.S, 3 DWPD for U.2.
