Overview
Nimbus Data ExaDrive DC is a capacity-first SATA solid-state drive designed to replace hard disk drives without redesigning the storage tier. It uses the same SATA interface and form factors as HDDs, shipping in 100 TB, 64 TB and 32 TB capacities in 3.5-inch, and 32 TB and 16 TB in 2.5-inch — so an existing server, JBOD or array slot accepts it directly.
The design goal is density per U. ExaDrive DC offers up to three times the capacity density of HDD-based systems and up to ten times the capacity of any other SATA SSD, which collapses rack space, reduces the number of servers needed and lowers per-server software licensing cost accordingly.
Performance and endurance follow the flash medium rather than the hard-drive baseline: more than 100x the I/O performance of HDD-based systems, 98 percent lower latency than nearline HDDs, and effectively unlimited endurance for five years from the patented architecture. Enterprise-grade TLC flash and in-flight data protection cover the reliability side, and the drive can be deployed purely as a replacement or mixed with HDDs to form hybrid storage.
Key Benefits
Up to 100 TB per drive in 3.5-inch SATA — replace HDDs slot-for-slot with no host changes. Unlimited endurance for 5 years removes DWPD calculations from the tier. 98% lower latency than nearline HDDs and over 100x the I/O of HDD-based systems. Up to 10x the capacity of any other SATA SSD shrinks the footprint dramatically. Fewer servers means lower power, floor space and software licensing cost, with CPU efficiency improved by 50 percent or more.
Applications
Modernising legacy hard-drive-based storage systems, nearline capacity tiers being converted to flash, content and media archives, backup targets, and hybrid arrays that mix ExaDrive with HDDs while keeping the same SATA backplane.
