The PBlaze7 7940 is Memblaze's read-intensive-to-mixed-use PCIe Gen5 drive. Its interest is the controller choice: Marvell Bravera rather than an in-house design, which places it in the same architectural family as several domestically designed Gen5 drives and makes it a natural comparison against the Micron 7450/7500 and Solidigm D7-PS1010 tiers on a per-terabyte basis.
Independent testing has run the 7940 across a wide spread of PCIe Gen5 hosts — AMD EPYC, Intel Xeon and AmpereOne — which is the useful qualification for a buyer, because Gen5 SSD throughput is sensitive to the host root complex. For a fleet standardising on one drive across mixed server generations, that breadth of platform validation matters more than a peak benchmark number.
