Overview

The GL.iNet Mango 2 (GL-MG1300) is the second-generation Mango travel router, moving from the original's single-core 580MHz MediaTek part to a dual-core processor at 880MHz and adding 5GHz coverage. It carries 128MB of DDR3L, 2MB of NOR flash and 128MB of NAND flash, with 802.11a/b/g/n/ac 2x2 MIMO wireless rated at up to 400Mbps on 2.4GHz and 866Mbps on 5GHz.

Unlike most pocket routers, the Mango 2 provides separate Gigabit Ethernet WAN and LAN ports rather than 100Mbps interfaces, plus a USB 3.0 host port that accepts storage peripherals or a USB cellular modem for WAN failover. Power is supplied over USB Type-C, and the device can run in Ethernet, Wi-Fi repeater, USB-tethering or USB-modem modes.

VPN performance is the headline improvement: GL.iNet specifies up to 184Mbps over WireGuard and up to 95Mbps over OpenVPN with DCO, against 45Mbps and 11Mbps on the original Mango. The firmware is OpenWrt-based and advertised as compatible with more than 30 VPN providers, which makes it a practical travel gateway for locked-down networks.

Key Benefits

Dual-core 880 MHz upgrade with dual-band Wi-Fi 5, true Gigabit WAN and LAN ports, USB 3.0 host for modems or storage, and 184 Mbps WireGuard throughput in a pocket-sized OpenWrt package.

Applications

Travel and field-deployment networking, temporary site connectivity, secure remote-access gateways, IoT test benches, and USB-tethered failover links.
