Overview
The Moxa MGate 5192 is a specialist protocol gateway for substation automation, converting between IEC 61850 and the older utility protocols — Modbus, DNP3 and IEC 60870-5-101/104 — so that modern IEC 61850 IEDs and legacy RTUs can be integrated in one network.
It belongs to the protocol-gateway class rather than the general-purpose edge-gateway class: the value is in the certified protocol stack and deterministic conversion behaviour, not in running containers or AI workloads. In substation deployments it is mounted on DIN rail with redundant DC power feeds.
Key Benefits
IEC 61850 to Modbus/DNP3/IEC-104 conversion in one box, substation-hardened DIN-rail package, redundant power inputs, and web-based configuration for commissioning.
Applications
Substation automation, utility SCADA integration, legacy RTU modernisation, and IEC 61850-to-DNP3 protocol bridging in power networks.
