Overview
The IOL Core4 is a compact IO-Link master module from Pinetek Networks, built to drop into custom control, monitoring and IIoT hardware rather than to sit in a DIN-rail enclosure. It drives up to four industrial sensors or actuators over IO-Link (IEC 61131-9 SDCI) using two Analog Devices MAX14819 dual IO-Link master transceivers.
Two variants ship: the standard PT-1204 leaves the IO-Link master stack to the host processor, while the PT-1205 - publicised as the IOL Core4 Pro - adds a microcontroller so the stack runs locally on the module. The host side presents 24V power, 3.3V logic, SPI, interrupt and chip-select on a 2.54mm header, and a second header carries the four IO-Link ports with L+, DIA and CQ signals.
Electrically each port supports Class A devices with up to 500 mA available on L+ and 150 mA on CQ, from a 24V field supply rated +/-20% and a maximum 2 A through the host connector. For evaluation Pinetek supplies a Raspberry Pi kit containing the standard PT-1204 module, a carrier board, a 24V power supply and sensor cables; the carrier uses the Raspberry Pi 40-pin GPIO header and can optionally power the Pi itself, and Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 are both listed as supported hosts.
Key Benefits
Four Class A IO-Link ports on one module, MAX14819 transceivers for proven physical layer, SPI host interface with 24V field supply, and a Raspberry Pi evaluation kit that shortens bring-up.
Applications
Custom industrial controllers and IIoT gateways, sensor-level data acquisition, retrofitting IO-Link into existing embedded Linux hardware, and machine-level monitoring and diagnostics.
