Specifications
Vendor
Montage Technology
Part Number
M88DR5CK01
Product Type
Gen1 DDR5 Client Clock Driver (CKD)
Max Rate
7200 Mbps
Module Types
DDR5 CUDIMM, CSODIMM and CAMM
Function
Re-drives and conditions the clock at the DIMM so the client memory bus timing closes at high rates
Why a CKD
Above roughly 6400 MT/s client modules require an on-module clock driver to hold timing
Placement
On-module silicon adjacent to the DRAM packages
Client Platform Class
Desktop and mobile client platforms with high-speed DDR5 memory
Companion Silicon
M88SPD5118 SPD Hub (covers CUDIMM, CSODIMM, CAMM, LPCAMM and SOCAMM)
Server Counterpart
M88DR5RCD01-04 registered clock drivers for DDR5 RDIMM

Overview
As DDR5 client memory rates climbed past roughly 6400 MT/s, the clock signal arriving at the module could no longer be trusted to close timing across every DRAM package on the board. The JEDEC answer is the client clock driver: a small re-driver placed on the module that regenerates the clock before it is distributed to the DRAM. The Montage M88DR5CK01 is that part in its first generation, rated to 7200 Mbps.
It is designed for the three client module standards Montage lists — CUDIMM (clocked unbuffered DIMM), CSODIMM (clocked small-outline DIMM) and CAMM (compression attached memory module). All three place the CKD alongside the DRAM so the host's memory bus only has to reach the module edge rather than every device. The companion SPD hub for these form factors is the M88SPD5118.
For AI-adjacent client hardware — workstations and desktops that host local model inference or act as development machines against a datacenter deployment — a clocked DDR5 module at 7200 Mbps is a meaningful step up in memory bandwidth over a standard UDIMM at the same DRAM speed grade. The CKD is the enabling part, and it is a different device from the server RCD the same vendor builds for RDIMM, which is worth noting when specifying memory across a mixed fleet.
QS Compute supplies the M88DR5CK01 and the surrounding Montage client silicon to module houses and OEMs building CUDIMM, CSODIMM and CAMM products.
Key Benefits
Unlocks 7200 Mbps on client DDR5 where an unclocked DIMM cannot close timing. One part across three form factors — CUDIMM, CSODIMM and CAMM. Pairs with the M88SPD5118 SPD hub for a complete client module support BOM. Clear server/client split — CKD here, RCD elsewhere in the same vendor family.
Applications
DDR5 CUDIMM, CSODIMM and CAMM module designs · high-bandwidth desktop and mobile client platforms · AI workstation and local-inference development machines · client memory module ODM programmes
