Function
Buffering, clock regeneration, power regulation and thermal telemetry for high-capacity server memory
Overview
Rambus supplies the full set of interface silicon that sits on a DDR5 server memory module: the registering clock driver that buffers and re-drives address, command and control, the power management IC that regulates the module's on-DIMM rails, the SPD hub that exposes module identity and thermal telemetry over the sideband bus, and the discrete temperature sensor. This chipset is what turns a set of DRAM devices into a working RDIMM or MRDIMM.
The Rambus portfolio spans the entire DDR5 server speed ramp with part numbers published per speed grade: RCD1-G1EX at 4800 MT/s, RCD2-Gxx at 5600, RCD3-Gxx at 6400, RCD4-Gxx at 7200, DR5RCD5Gxx at 8000 and DR5RCD6Gxx at 9600. For multiplexed rank modules, the D5MRCD2Gxx multiplexed registering clock driver and D5MDB2XGxx multiplexed data buffer extend the same architecture to 12800 MT/s by presenting two ranks behind a single multiplexed interface.
Power delivery is segmented by thermal budget as well. PMIC5000 (P1945XXGxx) covers conventional RDIMM rails from 4800 to 7200 MT/s, PMIC5020 (P1947XXGxx) is the extreme-current part for RDIMM and 8800 MT/s MRDIMM, and PMIC5030 (P2965XXGxx) is the Gen2 server PMIC required by 8000-9600 MT/s RDIMM and 12800 MT/s MRDIMM operation. SPD1605Gxx and TS1685XGxx complete the module.
Key Benefits
Complete module silicon: RCD or MRCD, data buffer, PMIC, SPD hub and temperature sensor from one vendor. Full DDR5 ramp covered: published part numbers from 4800 through 9600 MT/s RDIMM and 12800 MT/s MRDIMM. Thermally matched PMIC ladder: high-current, extreme-current and Gen2 PMICs to fit each module's power envelope. Telemetry ready: SPD hub with internal temperature sensing plus discrete sensor option.
Applications
DDR5 RDIMM and MRDIMM module builds for AI and HPC servers, high-capacity database and in-memory analytics platforms, memory module OEM and ODM production, module validation and interoperability testing, and server platform memory qualification.
