Overview

The FRDM-IMX93 is NXP's low-cost, compact development board for the i.MX 93 applications processor. It combines dual Arm Cortex-A55 cores running at 1.7 GHz with an Arm Ethos-U65 microNPU, giving developers a path to run quantized machine-learning workloads in the low-power edge range without adding a discrete accelerator.

The board is unusually well-connected for its class. It pairs 2 GB of LPDDR4X memory and 32 GB of eMMC 5.1 storage with an onboard u-blox MAYA-W27x module carrying NXP's IW612 tri-radio, which provides Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 and 802.15.4 for Thread and Zigbee networks. Two Gigabit Ethernet ports, one TSN-capable, cover industrial networking, while MIPI-CSI, MIPI-DSI and HDMI interfaces handle camera and display integration. An M.2 connector and three USB 2.0 Type-C ports round out expansion and debug.

The FRDM-IMX93 is notable as NXP's first FRDM board built around an i.MX MPU with integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, positioning it for industrial and IoT prototypes that need secure connectivity and local inference. QS Compute supplies the FRDM-IMX93 and the wider i.MX 9 evaluation portfolio.

Key Benefits

NPU-integrated development: Ethos-U65 microNPU on the same SoC as dual 1.7 GHz Cortex-A55 cores for low-power edge AI. Tri-radio connectivity built in: Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 and 802.15.4 on a single onboard module. Industrial networking ready: dual Gigabit Ethernet with TSN on one port. Low-cost entry point: compact FRDM form factor for rapid industrial and IoT prototyping.

Applications

Industrial IoT edge nodes, secure connected sensors and gateways, smart-building and home-automation devices, machine-vision prototypes, voice and vision edge inference, and rapid evaluation of the i.MX 93 platform before custom carrier design.
