Overview
The MINISFORUM MS-R1 is an Arm64 Linux mini PC and light workstation built on the CIX P1 SoC, also designated CP8180. Its 12-core CPU mixes four Cortex-A720 big cores running to 2.6 GHz with four medium A720 cores and four Cortex-A520 LITTLE cores sharing 12 MB of L3. Graphics come from an Immortalis G720 MC10 with hardware ray-tracing, which is unusual at this price point in the Arm mini-PC space.
AI capability is the headline: a 28.8 TOPS NPU supporting INT4, INT8, INT16, FP16, BF16 and TF32, with up to 45 TOPS across CPU, GPU and NPU combined. Memory runs to 64 GB of LPDDR5 at 5,500 MHz with LinkECC and inline ECC support — relevant for anyone running long inference jobs where a silent bit flip matters. The SoC is manufactured on TSMC 6 nm.
I/O is closer to a small server than a mini PC. Two 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports sit alongside Wi-Fi 6E and nine USB ports, and a PCIe x16 slot accepts a graphics card, a U.2 storage adapter or a networking card. Storage starts with an M.2 2280/22110 NVMe drive on PCIe 4.0 x4 plus a second M.2 2280 through an E-Key transfer card, with bundled adapters for U.2. Display output covers HDMI 2.0 at 4K60, two USB-C ports with DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode at 4K120 and an internal eDP connector, and video decode reaches 8K60 AV1. It ships running Debian 12.
Key Benefits
45 TOPS combined AI performance with a 28.8 TOPS NPU supports local LLM and vision inference on an Arm64 platform. Two 10GbE ports plus a PCIe x16 slot give it networking and expansion normally found in rack hardware. Up to 64 GB LPDDR5-5500 with LinkECC and inline ECC protects long-running workloads. M.2 22110 plus a second M.2 and U.2 adapters allow large local datasets, and it is a genuine Arm64 Linux machine rather than an emulation layer.
Applications
Arm64 application development and porting, local LLM and vision inference, edge server and NAS workloads, software build and CI machines, network appliances with 10GbE, compact engineering workstations.
