Overview
The Eaton Boyd ROL4000-48U65 is an in-row, liquid-to-liquid coolant distribution unit rated at 2 MW of cooling capacity with a 3 °C approach temperature. It was developed specifically for next-generation technology cooling system (TCS) loops, delivering up to 80 PSI of available pressure to drive flow through high-performance cold plate loops, control valves and rack manifolds.
By operating at a narrow approach temperature the unit raises the return water temperature seen by the facility plant, which reduces or eliminates the need for facility chillers and lowers overall power usage effectiveness. Redundant pumps, a standby bypass loop, automatic coolant replenishing and automatic leak detection address the availability requirements of AI training clusters.
Boyd (now part of Eaton) supplies the full cooling ecosystem around the CDU: cold plates, rack manifolds, liquid loops, leak detectors, tubing and quick disconnects. The ROL4000 sits above the RAA32-10U2 10U liquid-to-air unit (32 kW) for sites without facility water.
Key Benefits
2 MW per unit for rack densities beyond 100 kW. 3 °C approach temperature reduces facility cooling load. 80 PSI available pressure for dense cold plate loops. Redundant pumps and bypass loop for continuous operation.
Applications
AI training and inference halls, hyperscale GPU clusters, colocation high-density halls, retrofits of air-cooled data centres to direct liquid cooling, and TCS loop deployments at 100 kW+ per rack.
