Overview
The CoolIT CHx80 is an in-rack coolant distribution unit that manages 80 kW of heat load in 4U of rack space and can serve up to 100 servers — the sweet spot for HPC and enterprise racks that are liquid-cooled at node level but not yet at the multi-hundred-kilowatt density of an AI training rack.
Its distinguishing feature is the supported water range: the full ASHRAE W17 through W+ envelope, which includes warm-water operation at and above 45 °C inlet. Running warm lets the data center use free cooling for most of the year and, where the building can take it, reuse the return heat. That is the same warm-water philosophy the larger CoolIT CDUs are built around; the CHx80 simply packages it for a single rack rather than a hall.
The CHx80 sits at the bottom of a CDU ladder that runs CHx200 (200 kW), CHx750, CHx1500 (1364 kW) and CHx2000 (2269 kW), with the row-based CHx2000 able to cool twelve NVIDIA GB200/GB300 NVL72 racks inside a 750 × 1200 mm footprint, with Redfish integration and group control of up to twenty units. Because the same vendor supplies the cold plates and coldplate loops, the flow resistance of the coldplate side is known to the CDU design rather than discovered during commissioning.
Key Benefits
80 kW in 4U matches a single high-density enterprise or HPC rack. ASHRAE W17 to W+ water range with warm-water operation above 45 °C. Free cooling and heat reuse become viable in most climates. Cooling for up to 100 servers from one in-rack unit. Matched coldplates and loops from the same vendor simplify hydraulic balance. Scales to the CHx2000 row CDU as density grows, on the same control model.
Applications
HPC clusters with node-level liquid cooling; enterprise racks moving from air to liquid; warm-water and heat-reuse deployments; single-rack AI inference nodes; research and university compute; hybrid halls where some racks are liquid and others remain air.
